O Meri Jaan - Life In A... Metro

Playback - KK

Music - Pritam

Lyrics - Sandeep Srivastava

This song.. by now must be heard and played way too many times and should have been on the blog earlier.. but nevertheless.. made it :)

Love the guitar & drums in the background - they sound simply great!
Personally, wasn't a big fan of rock music, didn't enjoy the electronic guitar too much.. but it's grown on me - now I really like it.

KK - currently one of the best singers in Bollywood - but not in the limelight, neither an award winner often - but very talented. (Sonu Nigam's made way for all these guys!!)

Also, the other good thing about the song is how it starts slow, soft and sweet and then - it's loud! Just like Alvida from the same music album..

The nice lines are:

Dil Khudgarj Hai, Phisala Hai Yeh Phir Haath Se
Kal Usaka Raha, Abb Hai Tera Iss Raat Se
O Meri Jaan…

(I agree with only - Dil Khudgarz hai - after all, as of today - every1 lives for themselves, there are very few people who care more about the others than themselves. - that's Reality!)

Tu Aa Gaya Yuun Nazar Mein
Jaise Subah Dopahar Mein
Madhoshi Yuun Hi Nahi Dil Pe Chaayi
Niyat Ne Li Angadaayi
Chhuaa Tune Kuchh Iss Tarah
Badli Fiza Badla Sama
O Meri Jaan…

Me thinks - nice song!

JBJ/ Jhoom/ Jhoom Barabar Jhoom - Jhoom Barabar Jhoom

Music - Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy

Lyrics - Gulzar

The title "Jhoom Barabar Jhoom" is apparently inspired by the old song "Jhoom Barabar Jhoom Sharabi" which was from the film 5 Rifles (1974) - music by Aziz Nazan which was a big hit of it's time and I guess has gained popularity once more - courtesy Yash Raj Films :)

There are 3 versions of the title song in the new avatar.. really confusing but enjoyable!

Playback - Shankar Mahadevan (alone)

This is the version which has been picturised on Amitabh Bachchan.. n is sweet! It's credible how he can carry off an outfit like the one he's wearing and to top it - dancing!
It's much slower than the other two.. but nice.

ho kab lage kahaan rab jaane,
jab lage jahaan sab jaane rabba rabba...
har chot maja deti hai, jeene ki saja deti hai rabba rabba rabba...
jhooti mooti baatein sunake, gungunaati aankhein sunake
jalaave bujhaave bujhaave jalaave oy mombattiyaan

Are the nice lines from this song..

Moving on to version 2:

Playback - Shankar Mahadevan, Sunidhi Chauhan

This is the Folk song.. it reminds me of the song Shubha Mudgal sang for her private album - the song's called "Dholna" & was picturised on Malaika Arora with hubby Arbaaz Khan.. maybe because of the way in which Sunidhi has sung the song..

It's also got the Jhoom-Jhoom + Dj rap a little in between the song which makes it a little young.. I would think it's got a good blend of culture, music & youth in it.

Finally the 3rd version - (which I like best)

Playback - Shankar Mahadevan, KK, Sukhwinder Singh, Mahalaxmi Iyer

This version of the song starts with nice instrumental music & has an awesome Indian(Punjabi) feel to it.. the style of singing, the lyrics, the dhol and all of it! It's got this upbeat and foot tapping music throughout the song..and the last part of the song which is initiated by Shankar Mahadevan and then accompanied by all of them.. is like ultimate.. full of energy, enthusiasm and the feeling of a live song.

jo baawarein se lagate hai,
woh log bhale hote hain makhana makhana
jo ishq mein ji nahi sakate pehle se marein hote hain makhana makhana
ba adab ho ba mulaajha, aaya tujhpar dil aaya
billoni billoni billoni hath maar de taaliyaan
billoni billo billoni hath maar de taaliyaan
maki ki roti gudh rakh ke,
misri se mithe lab chakh ketandoor jalaake
jhoom jhoom....jhoom baraabar
jhoom baraabar jhoom baraabar jhoom

Is what gives the punjabi feel to it - though, as usual - I don't know what these lines mean!

All in all - great songs.. can't wait to watch the film :)
