Hips Don't Lie - Oral Fixation Vol. 2

Playback - Shakira & Wyclef Jean

My blog usually doesn't feature English songs too often.. but this is one track I do really enjoy listening to and also since Shakira was the talk of the town off late since she did her 1st Live concert in India... this post was needed.

"Hips Don't Lie" is a Grammy Award-nominated Latin pop song performed by Colombian singer Shakira and Haitian rapper Wyclef Jean. The song samples Jean's 2004 song "Dance Like This" and takes much of the instrumentation from Jerry Rivera's "Amores Como El Nuestro

I think she has belly - danced really well in the song.. and has sung it really well too.
It's an awesome song to party on!

The beats, the saxaphone and all of it sounds fab!

If you've watched this Sushmita Sen film called Zindagii Rocks, the song Meri Dhoop Hai Tu has a frame or two which is "ispired" :) so to say from Hip's Don't Lie where Sushmita is also wearin white.. but well.. people draw inspiration from various people and through various means.. guess this is just another one.

If you haven't already heard this song yet, you definitely have to!

Rafta Rafta - Namastey London

Playback - RDB (Rhythm Dhol Bass) - UK-based Bhnagra Band

Music - Himesh Reshammiya

Lyrics - Javed Akhtar

Rafta means speed and here in context to the song I'm guessing love happened quickly!
When I saw the film, I didn't notice the song and don't even remember at what point in the film it was! But now that I'm listening to it.. I like it and simply love the way the song's been sung.

It's also got this arabic feel to it which could be because of the style in which it's sung and the instrumental music throughout.

Akshay Kumar looked good in the film and Katrina was pretty good too. Overall an OK film I thought.. it hasn't got great reviews though.

This was post no.50 - I'm impressed :)

Kitni Der Tak - Delhii Heights

Playback - Sonu Nigam

Music & Lyrics - Rabbi Shergill

Kitni Der Tak is almost like Sonu Nigam's come back song.. haven't heard too many from him off late.. which is not very nice. Apparently he has decided to do very few select songs.. nevertheless.. it's nice to hear him again!

The guitar is nice as usual and I also like:

Kitni der tak tum baahar rukogi
kitni der tak mein rukuun yahaan

odo baad main door jaana
rowaanga mein baithe door kise kone vich
mud ke ni geet yeh main gaana
odo baad main tur jaana
odo baad tu tur jaana

Kitni der tak.. aaj sham ya savere tak..

Rabbi Shergill's claim to fame was the song Bulla Ki Jaana and then Tere Bin (do read the Tere Bin post from the past).

Tere Bin features even this film and is a really nice song too..

The film releases this Friday - 30th March,'07.
Gudgudee - Just Married

Playback - Sunidhi Chauhan (I think she's one of the best singers in the country today!)

Music - Pritam

Lyrics - Gulzar

Gudgudee means tickle but in context to this song, it really is like butterflies in your stomach.. guess you feel like that when your anxious and really wonder how things will be in the future.

The song is about how there is some uncertainty in a relationship because it's new and your in it not really out of choice but more because of the sake of your elders. It so happens that we do things in our daily lives because of what others think and feel and would want us to do.. Though, times are changing and people are living for themselves, for the moment!

Arranged marriages happen even today but it's still a better scene than it was some years ago where the bride and groom wouldn't even know whom they are going to spend their lives with (absolutely SCARY!)

Love marriages are a more common phenomena but as we move on.. it's the age of Live-in relations. It's more a matter of convenience I would think, it's more like let's check it out and see.. if we can't live with each other, move on.

I think our parents adjusted and compromised a lot more than what the now-generation would.

Times change.. people change.. thoughts change :)

Back to the song.. I think it's sweet and well sung. The film was ok.. nothing exceptional and a lot of things in the film were silly.. but well..

Gungunati Hui - Betaabi (1997)

Music - Vishal Bharadwaj

Playback - Kumar Sanu, Suresh Wadkar

Lyrics - Sameer

Just to refresh your mind.. this song is from a movie starring Chandrachur Singh (of Maachis fame), Arshad Warsi, Anjala Zaveri & Mayuri Kango.

3 of the 4 leads of this film are quite out of the picture currently except Arshad Warsi who seems to be rocking Bollywood post Munnabhai MBBS, Salaam Namaste and Big Boss on the small screen.

1 reason why I really like this song is the music which is fantastic! It's a peaceful song which talks about having achieved something, achieved love if I can say so..

The part where you hear the violon and saxaphone in tandem (jugalbandi) is superb and ofcourse, the piano with which the song begins..

I would say.. a nice song from the not so past.. just 10 years! :)

Main Jahaan Rahoon - Namastey London

Playback - Rahat Fateh Ali Khan

Music - Himesh Reshammiya

Lyrics - Javed Akhtar

Simple, nice and soulful is how I would define this song.. It's got great music and is well sung too.
If you really pay attention to the lyrics - it's really sad but I think it's got to do a lot with reality.
In life, to say: The world moves with you.. but reality is you came alone, you'll go alone and while we live, we have moments and memories (yaadein) which keep us going which reminds me of a dialogue from the film Kal Ho Naa Ho which goes:

Hasso, jeeyo, khush raho
Kya pata... Kal ho naa ho..

Coming back to the song..the nice lines are:

kisi se kahoon
ke nahi kahoon yeh jo dil ki baat hai
kehne ko saath apane ek duniya chalti hai
per chhupke is dil mein tanhaayi palti hai
bas yaad saath hai teri yaad saaath hai
main jahaan rahoon
main kahin bhi hoon
teri yaad saaath hai...

There's a remix to the same song which is alright and a 'Mehfil Mix' as well which has some poetry in it. Personally like the original the best.

The film releases on the 23rd of March,'07 and here's the official site.

Mann Ki Lagan - Paap (2003)

Playback - Rahat Fateh Ali Khan

Music - Anu Malik

Mann ki lagan is my pick for the week from the not so old, old songs :)

This film was directed by Pooja Bhatt starring John Abraham and Udita Goswami - never watched it though.. (2 posts in a row for songs from films I haven't watched - now that's weird!)

This song's sung well, got great music and lyrics too..It's got this classical feel to it which could be because of the harmonium and tabla combo which I personally think is more ghazal-like.
I think once in a way Anu Malik does come up with really good music - wish he would be less of a copy-cat!

All said and done, this is one song I really like.. especially these lines:

Aa Ja O Meri Jaan
Mere Dil Ka Jahaan
Maange Teri Khabar
Dhoondhe Tera Nishaan
Laagi Tum Se Man Ki Lagan
Lagan Laagi Tum Se Man Ki Lagan...
Gali-Gali Ghoome Dil Tujhe Dhoondhe...

and then..

Tera Tujhako Saunp De Kya Laagat Hai Mor
Mera Mujhamen Kuchh Naaheen Jo Hovat So Tor
Tere Bin Mera Man
Jaise Ban Men Hiran
Jaise Pagali Pawan
Laagi Tum Se Man Ki Lagan

I think it's a nice, peaceful song for your loved one.

Afreen (Remix) - RED - The Dark Side of Love

Playback - Himesh Reshammiya

Music - Himesh Reshammiya

Lyrics - Sameer

Afreen means pure & beautiful and was also the name of the hit song by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan that featured super-model Lisa Ray.

This song from RED has an awesome background score and Himesh Reshammiya's sung it pretty well too.. not that I'm a huge fan of his or anything of that sort but his music is decent and he does seem to have atleast a couple of hit songs in his kitty pretty often.. I think when he did the music for Aashiq Banaya Apne he became quite a rage with the masses and not too long back he did a concert in the UK (becoming the 1st Indian to perform at Wembley Arena-London) where he did a launch for his romantic-thriller called Aap Ka Suroor which just added to all the fame.

Coming to the movie RED - it is a Vikram Bhatt film whose promos don't look that interesting..but since there's no other hindi film besides Deepa Mehta's Water which released this week as well, was actually wondering if I should go watch it.. but just think I'm gonna spare myself this time :)

The song's decent though.. there's another track called Amin which also sounds okay.
In a line.. Himesh's back!

Tu Hi Meri Shab - Gangster-A Love Story

Playback - KK

Music - Pritam

Lyrics - Sayeed Quadri

I know this is an old song and I've decided that I'm going to make it a point to pick an old song and write about it every week (hopefully) - this is all thanks to the Radio and also a specific program on Radio One - 94.3 FM called Flashback where they play really old songs and most of them are really nice - that's if you're fond of them.

If this isn't reason enough.. also happened to hear this song too many times, then watched it on the Stardust Awards performed by Kangana Ranaut..

About Tu hi meri shab - I think it's fabulously sung and also the music is great!
The O o oo .. is very nice - brings back memories and the lyrics too are very good.. I think everyone reading this should go back and sing along....

tu hi meri shab hai subha hai tu hi din hai mera
tu hi mera rab hai jahaan hai tu hi meri duniya
tu waqt mere liye main hoon tera lamha
kaise rahega bhala hoke tu mujhse judaa
o o o o ho ho
o o o o o o
tu hi meri shab hai subha hai tu hi din hai mera
tu hi mera rab hai jahaan hai tu hi meri duniya
tu waqt mere liye main hoon tera lamha
kaise rahega bhala hoke tu mujhse judaa
o o o o ho ho
o o o o o o
aankhon se padhke tujhe dil pe maine likha
tu ban gaya hai mere jeene ki ek wajah
ho aankhon se padhke tujhe dil pe maine likha
tu ban gaya hai mere jeene ki ek wajah
teri hasi teri adaa auron se hai bilkul judaa
o o o o ho ho
o o o o o o
aankhen teri shabnami chehra tera aaina
tu hai udaasi bhari koi haseen dastaan
ho aankhen teri shabnami chehra tera aaina
tu hai udaasi bhari koi haseen dastaan
dil mein hai kya kuchh toh bata
kyon hai bhala khud se khafa
o o o o ho ho
o o o o o o
tu hi meri shab hai subha hai tu hi din hai mera
tu hi mera rab hai jahaan hai tu hi meri duniya
tu waqt mere liye main hoon tera lamha
kaise rahega bhala hoke tu mujhse judaa
o o o o ho ho
o o o o o o...

Pyar Ki Yeh Kahani - Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd

Playback - Sunidhi Chauhan, Gayatri Iyer

Music - Vishal-Shekhar

Lyrics - Javed Akhtar

Simply Goan is what I would call this song - it's picturised on Minissha Lamba & Abhay Deol who danced extremely well in this song and in the film, they are on their honeymoon in Goa - though, that's not the only reason.. if you concentrate on the background music in the song, it's got the saxaphone along with the guitar playing which just sounds very Goan.

Not sure about the dance form - Tango / Salsa but it looks nice!

Good film to watch - it's got entertainment value - do watch out for KK Menon, Boman Irani & Raima Sen for sure.
